In this blog, I am going to share the Recipe of Alasandi Kalu Saaru. This is a highly nutritious and protein-rich food. Alasande kalu saaru is one of my family’s favorite recipes. We make it at home on a regular basis. In the olden days, our ancestors used to work on the farms for the whole day, they needed more energy and strength to work. So, they consumed more pulses and legumes for high protein requirements. Alasande kaalu saaru tastes delicious. You should definitely give it a try.

Ingredients for Recipe of Alasandi Kalu Saaru
3 medium tomato1 small lemon-sized Tamarind
3 tbsp Red chili powder
¼ th tbsp Turmeric powder.
1 cup Fresh Coriander leaves
4 chopped Ivy guards.
2 Brinjals chopped
1 medium-sized Potato diced
1 tbsp oil.
½ tbsp mustard seeds
1 dry red chili
5-6 curry leaves.
Instructions with Images
Soak 250 grams of Black eyed peas/alasande kaalu overnight.
In a pressure cooker add Soaked Black-eyed peas
Now add 1 and ½ glasses of water
Add ½ tbsp Salt and Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
Now, in a mixing jar, add ½ cup of sliced coconut
Add 1 medium-sized onion sliced.
Add 2 medium-sized tomatoes chopped
Now add 1 small lemon-sized tamarind
Add 2 tbsp Red chili powder.
Add 1/4th tbsp Turmeric powder
And add 1 cup of Fresh coriander leaves
Grind it into a smooth paste by adding little water.
Now, Add 4 chopped Ivy guards
Add 2 Brinjals chopped and 1 medium-sized Potato diced.
Lastly, add 1 small chopped tomato.
Cook it for 1 more whistle.
Now add cooked vegetables and black-eyed peas into a deep vessel.
Now, add the masala that we prepared earlier into it.
Mix everything well and Cook it till it starts to boil.
Now, add 1 tbsp Red chili powder or 1-2 green chilies for taste.
Add the salt according to taste if required and Cook it on low flame for 5 minutes.
In a tempering pan, add 1 tbsp oil and heat it.
Tempering for Sambar
Now add, ½ tbsp mustard seeds
Add 1 dry red chili
Add 5-6 curry leaves and let them splatter and turn off the stove.
Now add it to the sambar and mix everything well.
Lastly, add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
The tastiest Alasande kaalu saaru is ready to savor.
